Prague Secrets of the Spired city Self Guided Walk (opens in a new tab)

6 2 h – 3 h

In Prague’s Old Town and Castle district, a self‑guided walking tour lets you explore history, legends and quirky surprises at your own pace. As you move through the streets, you’ll hear the stories of the famous Golem and a chilling tale connected to Faust’s house. You’ll see the Astronomical Clock, where medieval fears are said to come to life on the hour, and stroll across Charles Bridge while learning the fascinating legends behind its statues, including a saint who was thrown into the river for keeping a secret. Along the way, you’ll spot modern public art that contrasts with the city’s older corners, from a rotating mirrored head of Franz Kafka to a surreal statue of Sigmund Freud dangling by one hand. The route includes an exterior overview of the Prague Castle complex, and you can choose to take the whole route in one go or split it into two parts. The experience is well suited to first‑time visitors who want flexibility, depth and a touch of local folklore to explore Prague.

David Cerny's Prague Art Installations: A Self-Guided Tour (opens in a new tab)

2 h – 2 h 30 min

Discover one of Europe’s most mischievous artists on a self-guided walking tour through Prague that goes far beyond medieval towers and baroque palaces. On this art-focused walking tour, I’ll introduce you to the artist David Černý, and show you how he’s transformed the city into his personal gallery. His sculptures are provocative, funny, cheeky – and sometimes downright shocking. You’ll first encounter Černý’s horse and rider sculpture that flips the country’s most sacred symbol upside down – literally. From there, you’ll weave through the New Town and Old Town’s medieval streets. As you walk, I’ll tell you how this rebel artist has transformed his city’s identity by sneaking contemporary art into UNESCO-protected historic streets, creating pieces that make you laugh, think, and sometimes scratch your head. You’ll also hear about breakthrough pieces that catapulted the artist to fame on both the local and international scene – naturally, through scandal.

If you have an extra day in Prague, we highly recommend exploring the left riverbank as well. You can find it on Viator - “Private Walking Tour of Prague Castle and Lesser Town (Left Riverbank)”. If you only have one day to see Prague’s major sights, we suggest exploring both riverbanks in a single day with our “Best of Prague Private Walking Tour (Left and Right Riverbank)”.
