About Berlin

Living history, museums and a city that never stops reinventing itself

Berlin carries the 20th century on the surface. The Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, the remains of the Wall and the memorials to the Holocaust are the core of a visit, and a guided walking tour is the easiest way to piece the history together.

It is also a very good city for museums, food and nightlife, with a cheaper cost of living than most European capitals. Potsdam, with its palaces and parks, makes a good half-day trip.

Best time
May to September for long days and beer gardens. December has Christmas markets; winters are cold and grey.
How long
Three to four days.
Getting around
The U-Bahn, S-Bahn and trams cover the city, and a day ticket is good value. Many sights in Mitte are walkable.
