Beaches, the world-famous zoo and perfect year-round weather
San Diego has about 70 miles of coastline, a mild climate all year and relaxed beach culture. Balboa Park, the zoo and the historic Gaslamp Quarter anchor the city centre.
It is easy to combine with day trips to Coronado, La Jolla's seal-watching coves and nearby Mexico, and its craft beer and fish tacos are famous.
- March to October for beach weather. 'June Gloom' brings morning clouds in early summer. Whale watching is best from December to April.
- Three days.
- A car helps, but the trolley, buses and ride-hailing cover the main areas. Downtown, Balboa Park and Coronado are walkable.
The most comfortable months with manageable crowds are Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, Oct, Nov, Dec. These are broad seasonal patterns, not forecasts.
