Sambal Streets Kuala Lumpur Food Tour with 15+ Tastings (opens in a new tab)

3,066 4 h

With a mix of cultural influences on the nation's cuisine, it's no wonder that Malaysian food is a lip-smackingly complex beast. We'll meet in the old district of Chow Kit and Kampung Baru, one of the last remaining districts that is yet to be developed into glassy high rises. Don't expect other foreigners. Stroll in this local neighbourhood of nightly street eats, sampling a variety of 15+ tastings, carefully curated for their culinary history. The flavours change across the year, but highlights include the fragrant bowls of laksa, hand stretched rotis, nasi lemak with piquant sambal and herbal chicken rendang, charcoal-grilled mackerel, and soothing iced cendol with custard-like durian. We'll end with a fine view of the mighty Petronas Twin Towers. I'm sure you have a lot of your plate, but here's some food for thought. While it's possible to attempt such a culinary marathon yourself, you'd be one sandwich short of a Malaysian picnic not to join me on our moveable food feast.

About Kuala Lumpur

Twin towers, street food and a blend of Malay, Chinese and Indian cultures

Kuala Lumpur is Malaysia's capital, where the Petronas Twin Towers rise above a mix of mosques, Chinese temples, Hindu shrines and colonial buildings. Its food scene reflects Malay, Chinese and Indian cooking, with night markets and hawker stalls on every street.

Visitors can see the towers, the Batu Caves with their colourful steps, Merdeka Square and the KL Tower. Two or three days is enough, and day trips go to Putrajaya, Malacca and the Genting Highlands.
