Thermal baths, castle hill and the Danube at night
Budapest is two cities on either side of the Danube: hilly, historic Buda with its castle district, and flat, lively Pest with the Parliament, the grand boulevards and the nightlife. The river between them is the city's best view, especially at night.
The thermal baths are the experience to plan around, and the city is cheap by Western European standards, which makes it easy to fit in a river cruise, a food tour and a ruin bar evening.
- April to June and September to October. Winters are cold, but the outdoor thermal baths are at their best in the cold.
- Three days.
- Trams, metro and buses cover the city, and the historic Line 1 metro is a sight in itself. Walking along the river between Buda and Pest is easy.
