Home to traditional Gnawa music and argan oil, the town is also an example of a multicultural centre as proven by the coexistence of diverse religious ethnic groups, such as the Amazighs, Arabs, Africans and Europeans. Today is known for Jimi Hendrix's favourite spot, Essaouira’s hippy and laid back vibe with its artistic touch attract travellers from around the world. Essaouira is also famous for surfing, film sets (Games of Thrones, John Wick) as well as cuisine. Fresh Atlantic fish and seafood at the local restaurants is a must-do when visiting Essaouira.
